Evans,
Veterinarian
Heartworm
What do you do if
your dog is diagnosed
with huur th worms?
What should happen
next?
Your veterinarian is
probably going to
recommend a complete
physical cuim and
mod teal work-up.
Wood r.hemiiitry and u
urinalysis will evaluate
the dog's liver and
kidney function. A
blood count will check
for anemia e.nd infec-
tions.
A chest x-tay can
help to evaluate how
severe the damage to
the heart and lungs
may be. An EKC. may
also be needed for
some piuiunts. A stool
should also bo checked
for intestinal worms.
After all this informa-
tion is collected, it may
be necessary lo treat
some problem before :t
is .life to treat For heart-
worm. We want the
dog in th'i hsst shape
possible before treftting
for tiRtirtworms.
